Late September at our house

Trevor showed me how to post to the blog so here’s hoping the updates will be a bit more frequent! I’ve been inspired by Jenny’s blog about Blossom Street and the goings-on of Carly and Maggie to make an attempt to remember some of the things that happen around here that family and friends might enjoy reading about.

Just yesterday, Liam and I had this little exchange:

Liam: Where’s Daddy?
Me: At work.
Liam: Why?
Me: He’s helping sick people.
Liam: E give them medicine?
Me: Yes.
Liam: E give them vitamins?
Me: Yeah…sort of.
Liam: E brush their teeth?
Me: Well, they’re grown- ups so they can brush their own teeth.

[Medicine, vitamins and teeth brushing have been part of Trevor and Liam’s nightly routine ever since Liam got home from the hospital.]

Trevor’s boss got a kick out of that conversation – my best attempt to explain the Ryan White HIV/AIDS federal grant program to a 2 year old.

Meanwhile, Callum is continuing to be a pretty laid back, adaptable baby – as long as given the opportunity to nurse frequently. Here he is at one month, on August 23rd:

Liam adores Callum - yesterday when we picked up Liam from school, he said to Callum “I missed you.” It’s still hard for Liam to share my attention so much – though fortunately the frustration is not directed at the baby.

Since it’s been so hot and buggy out, we’re spending more time inside than usual or than we'd like. But last Saturday we went to Radnor Lake and discovered a tree that had been gnawed on by a beaver – pretty exciting! Especially since “Peep and the Big Wide World” is Liam’s favorite TV program at the moment and one of the characters is a beaver (whose gnawing sound goes something like “Nigh-nigh-nigh” according to Liam). Here we are at the tree with Liam holding a large splinter:
